Silkies

Breed Description:

Silkies came from Peruvians but they lack the gene that is responsible
for rosettes. There are 3 breeds that have came from Silkies: Silkie Satins,
Coronets & Texels. Silkies coats grow 1 - 1 1/2 inches per month & grows
straight back over their heads so that their faces can be seen. This breed is
one of the oldest & they were first known as "Angoras" back in 1932.
Then in 1980, the name was officially changed to Silkie & they became
re-recognized as the 6th breed of cavies.
They are known as Shelties in the UK.

Silkie Satins are simply a coat variation where the hairs are hollow causing
them to appear opaque. In other words, they look extra shiny!!
