Breed Description:
Teddy's began as a coat mutation in an American cavy back in 1967.
They became the 5th recognized breed in 1978 & are the most popular
breed today. The coat of a Teddy is short & dense with a unique "kink"
to the hair shaft. This is what causes the hair to stand erect
all over the body. I compare their coats to carpet or grass when
describing them to someone who is not familiar with them as
those things grow erect just as a Teddy's coat. There are 2 coat types
recognized by judges when Teddy's are being shown: harsh & plush.
My breeding ideals: What I strive for in my Teddy's & Teddy Satin's
other than nice, dense coats are blunt noses, round faces, cobby
bodies & a thick build. To me this is what looks beautiful both
in my pen & on the show tables.
