Texels
Breed Description:
Imported from England,Texels became a recognized breed in 1998.
They are known for their curls/ringlets that form their long, soft coat.
They are one of the newest breeds of cavies today. You do not have
to brush a Texels coat. Actually,if you do you can ruin their beautiful
curls. It is better to finger-pick it as you pet them each day. You can check
them weekly for any mats that might occur from bedding becoming
entangled in the hair, etc & trim as needed. If you plan on showing
your Texel, you are best to keep them on something other than pine
shavings. I find cotton towels changed & laundered daily works
great as does shredded cardboard bedding & pelleted beddings.
My lines include Galatea's,Paisley's,
Marjean's Piggalle's,KSJ Cavies,Kayleigh's Caviary,
Rapunzel's,Iverson's,Ginder's & Mollica's in PA. I'm
proud to be able to say that over 1/2 of my Texel herd
is stock that I've produced here in my caviary.
** Please note that I added my Alpaca boars pic to this page because
he is my only Alpaca at this time & I will be breeding him back to his mother,
a Texel,in the hopes of producing more beautiful Alpacas.
