About Us.................

"Us" is Jay & Missy Collett along with our daughters,Cheyenne,Ashley,
Hannah & Madison, of Hillsboro,Ohio. I (Missy) started with my very first
guinea pigs at the age of 9 back in 1987 & had all Self Cream & Buff
Americans. Since then I have raised all 13 recognized breeds along with
5 breeds that are not yet recognized here in the United States
(Satin Cresteds, Alpacas, Texel Satins, Ridgebacks and Coronet Satins).
I've had has many as 200 at one time although we now try to stay at or
below 30 breeders. Right now my main focus is on Texels
& Teddys but I also have a few Teddy Satins, Alpacas, Coronets,
Silkies & Peruvians. We raise cavies now strictly as pets or for 4-H/Show.

We NEVER sell as feeders for other animals. Years ago I supplied several
different pet stores in Cincinnati,Columbus & Chillicothe,Ohio. I no longer
do this because of the many pet shops that do not seem to understand the
importances of both separating young boars & sows and also the need for
companionship which they could fill by selling in same sex pairs (not
to mention that most workers cannot properly sex guinea pigs,LOL). Our
guinea pigs receive the best of care including roomy cages (my cages
 measure 28" x 50" each & those house 2-4 piggies), loose hay,
Alfalfa hay cubes & unlimited Hubbard Guinea Pig pellets (milled fresh
right here in Ohio). Let's not forget plenty of water, fresh fruits &/or
veggies that are fed several times weekly & suppliments for
pregnant, nursing & show animals. We breed a variety of colors but
focus special attention on the Dilute (lighter) colors & Roans.

Here are my current color/variety focuses:

Silkies & Coronets - Selfs & Brokens in Dilute Colors

Teddys - Roans, Selfs, Silver Agoutis & Brokens
 * hope to add more Selfs soon in Black & Cream

Texels - Dilute Brokens  (Rainbows, Cr/Wht, Choc/Wht,
Ch/R/Wht & REO/Wht) and Intense Brokens in TS & TSW
* would love to add a Self Red or Black sow for my Alpaca boar soon!

You can view pictures of our current breeding stock by clicking on
the breed links below. Please check out our "For Sale" page to see what
we currently have available. We try & update it within 48 hours of a new
litter being born but occasionally, life gets busy & updates may
not be as frequent as I'd like. You can view pictures of newborn
babies & moms in labor on our "Nursery" page & see what's
coming up on our "Upcoming Litters" page. If you are new to guinea
pigs, feel free to check out our "Cavy Articles" page where I have
collected & written a wealth of information on care, health, housing,
nutrition, breeding, showing, interesting facts & more. I also have
some great links to share with you on our "Links" page. A few pages
are still in the works - Supplies, Other Pets & more! Feel free to contact me
with any questions you might have. We hope you enjoy your time
spent here on Beechwood's Best website :) .
